About Minerva
Lessons that connect subjects to each other, and a campus life that builds discipline, fitness and confidence.
Minerva teaches subjects so that they reinforce each other rather than sit in separate boxes. A topic met in science is used in mathematics and written about in English; what is read in the library turns up in the classroom. The aim is a child who can connect what they know and apply it, not one who has memorised each subject on its own.
Children learn by doing: experiments in the laboratories from the upper primary classes, projects and models, and activity periods where a concept is built, tested and then written up. Students reflect on their own work, which is how a lesson becomes a mental model they can use later, in the next class or in a job.
Minerva gives the uniformed units the same weight as academics. NCC Junior Division is open to the junior college and Senior Division to the degree college; NSS serves both; Scouts and Guides begin in the school. Parades, camps and social service drills build discipline, fitness and a sense of service to the community.
Every day has time outdoors. The grounds host athletics, team games and martial arts; there is a skating rink for the younger children, and music and dance are taught on the campus. The annual sports day and cultural day bring the whole campus together.
